Joan Bukrey, OSF
I was born and raised in
St. Paul, MN. I have 3 siblings: Dick, Bette and Jim. My mother,
Evelyn, lives in Ft. Myers, FL. I entered the Sisters of St. Francis of
Assisi in Milwaukee, WI and was professed in 1964. Most of my working
years as a Sister have been in some form of education . I taught junior
high students and served parishes in the field of religious education. I
also helped recruit and prepare new candidates to religious life. I have
been on the Thomas More Preaching Team since 1988; it is the most
challenging and rewarding work I have done in my ministry as a Sister of
St. Francis. I find it refreshing being outdoors, walking, and observing
wildlife, especially birds, both in the USA and in Australia. For
relaxation I enjoy reading, films, TV quiz programs, crossword puzzles and
quiet time alone.
Fr. Michael Champlin, OP
I
was born in January, 1939 and ordained a Dominican priest on June 3, 1966. After receiving
graduate degrees in philosophy and social psychology I began my priestly career
as a teacher in the Dominican Seminary. After three years I became a founding
member of the Dominican Evangelical Team (now Thomas More Preaching Team) and I
have continued a ministry of full time preaching for or over thirty-five years. Seventeen of those years were spent with my brother, Fr.
Carson which was a great privilege. We are the only two children in a
small family, of which I am now the only remaining member. Most of my preaching
has been in American and Australian parishes, but I have had the opportunity to
preach in a number of places in the South Pacific as well as Africa.
I enjoy golfing, but I am not very
skilled, even after a number of years. I also am a keen student of wine and
enjoy cooking. Travel, whether as a preacher or on holiday is something I enjoy
very much and I read the travel section in the newspaper before anything else.
Fr. Nicholas Punch, OP
I
come from a large, closely knit family, six boys and two girls. I am the second
eldest and was born in 1939. I have ten nephews and three nieces. Both parents
have died, but when I am in Australia, family gatherings are large, noisy and
fun.
I joined the Dominican Order in 1961
and was ordained a priest in December 1966. Since then I have worked in
parishes, schools and universities. I was Provincial of the Australian New
Zealand province of Dominicans from 1981-1988. This provided me with an
opportunity to see the work of the Order especially in the Pacific and Asia.
I became an intern at the Thomas More
Center for three months in 1989, and was given permission to join the Team full
time in 1991.
My hobbies are photography and
classical music, and like Fr Mike and Sr. Joan, I love reading. I devour the
Sunday New York Times whenever I get a chance.
