We are about to depart for Australia and our three months of work there.

A highlight for me this past July was a study pilgrimage tour of the holy places of St. Francis and St. Clare in Rome and Assisi.  

It was a test for my two new prosthetic hips and one I passed with flying colors.  All in all in the three weeks there, I would have walked 70 miles and mostly on hilly terrain.  

I came away, once again,  so impressed by the fact that Francis and Clare remain relevant in our modern day as we try to face church and cultural challenges to the Gospel way of life similar to those faced by the people of the Middle Ages.  I will try to post various bits and photos on my facebook page.

 We received 77 responses.  Thank you to all who helped us by filling out the survey.  We have tallied the results and will now incorporate them into our talk on Mission.

We were very impressed by the faithful and thoughtful responses.  We were inspired by the ways in which the respondents are living their faith in outreach and hunger for personal spirituality and community.  

When asked what they would like to see changed in our church here were the main issues:  married priesthood, ordination of women, inclusivity of  gay and lesbian people, less emphasis on orthodoxy, more emphasis on justice issues and the over all lack of relevance of the church to today's culture, especially their age group.
